Harry Smith is back at Digicel Jamaica, but this time as a director of the board, the company said on Friday.
Digicel also confirmed that Niall Sheehy, the head of Digicel Business, was moving on.
Sheehy's current five-year contract comes to an end in September.
"Yes, I will be leaving at the end of my contract in September. I met with the team and advised them of my decision, but I will take a few weeks to review my next move," he told Sunday Business.
However well placed sources have told Sunday Business that the Digicel executive is heading for Flow Jamaica.
Sheehy joined the company as business solutions manager in June 2005 and since then has set up and managed a specialist pre-sales team responsible for ICT solutions sales in Jamaica.
rapid ascendancy
He was appointed head of business services in 2008. The company, during his tenure, expanded its product and partnership portfolio to sell fixed voice, data VPN and Internet services.
Digicel had no immediate comment on who would replace Sheehy.
Smith, who was Digicel's chief customer relations officer up to his 2007 departure from the company, was credited with helping to spearhead the rapid ascendancy of the Irish mobile-phone company in the Jamaican market at its entry in 2001.
"Digicel Jamaica holds a huge place in my heart. For seven years up to 2007, I was proud to be part of one of the biggest corporate success stories that Jamaica has ever seen," he said on Friday.
Mark Linehan, CEO of Digicel Jamaica, acknowledged Smith's role in the company's advancement.
"Having originally joined Digicel in 2000, Harry played a huge part in building Digicel into the fantastic company it is today. Now, with his guidance and insight, we are looking forward to the contribution his proven experience will bring to Digicel Jamaica."
